A group of 35 EYFS teachers are working together using The Emmanuel Project (Disk1) materials to develop their provision for RE in their schools. For more information contact Tatiana Wilson

Area 2 of LTLRE stretches from Taunton to Swindon and covers the areas served by the Diocese of Bath and Wells and Bristol. It includes the Local Authority areas of Somerset, North Somerset, Bath and North East Somerset, South Gloucestershire, parts of Wiltshire and Swindon.
I’m delighted to be able to contribute to, and build on, the many good things happening in RE in this area. Learn, Teach, Lead RE was established to find solutions to unmet needs in RE, so please get in touch to let me know what you think these are. Welcome to Area 2-West of England
Area 2 of LTLRE stretches from Minehead to Swindon and covers the areas served by the Diocese of Bath and Wells and the Diocese of Bristol.
Area 2 (West of England) LTLRE includes the Local Authority districts of Bath and North East Somerset (1), North Somerset (2), Bristol (3), South Gloucestershire (4), Swindon (6), North Wiltshire (part of 7) and Somerset (11).
As a project, LTLRE seeks to offer the grass roots support for teachers of RE, strengthening practice in classrooms by building on existing models of support and finding new ways of connecting teachers to each other.
All Hub leaders receive training to carry out this role, meeting together 2-3 times a year to develop and improve their practice and understanding of the subject. We still have some vacancies for Hub leader roles, so please make contact with us if you are interested in finding out more.

What is Learn, Teach, Lead RE?
The project is a learning partnership project for Religious Education with a focus on creating a community of enquiry and professional development across the southwest peninsula.
The project aims to support all teachers of RE irrespective of their experience or qualifications through practical support at hub meetings and the opportunity to participate in projects that develop their teaching skills and the learning experiences of those they teach.
We are a grass-roots movement who look to partner with others. We believe that encouragement and collaboration in research projects enable innovative practice.
All our hub leaders are teachers themselves who are developing their own practice. Some are Specialist Leaders in Education who work with Teaching Schools or support Initial Teacher Education Programmes, others work nationally supporting the teaching of RE.
A key strength of our project is that hub leaders are equipped through specialised training giving them skills and expertise. In addition our annual conference is a springboard for much of our work in schools, offering all those who attend the opportunity to hear national figures in the Religious Education.

LTLRE in Area 1 was launched in October 2012 through funding from the St Luke’s College Foundation . The funding means that the CPD enjoyed by increasing numbers of teachers is FREE to teachers of RE in state funded primary, secondary and special schools. In Area 1 we are now moving to a different model where a range of partners including SACREs, Diocese, Teaching Schools and MATs sponsor a hub and are looking for funding to subsidise our conference in Autumn 2018.

Area 2: includes all schools in the areas of Bath and Wells Diocese, and Bristol Diocese, running from Minehead to Swindon. Ed Pawson is Programme Director for Area 2.
As a result of the positive evaluations received since the beginning of its work, the project has now received substantial funding from the Jerusalem Trust to extend its work into three other south western areas centred around the Dioceses of Bristol, Bath and Wells and Salisbury.

RE Quality Mark offers a useful self-evaluation tool for teachers, senior leaders and governors as well as pupil questionnaires free of charge. It is a great resource for new and experienced subject leaders. No writing or special files are required, just a highlighter pen. Gill Tewkesbury won the Hockerill / NATRE prize for innovate teaching in RE for 2014 for her work in primary school. She has kindly shared her Scheme of Work, the details of which are from the Hockerill website
This SOW follows the life of Jim, an 18 year old student who has just finished his A-levels and is planning to work as a Gap year student for a charity in Africa. Each week Jim sends a letter, e-mail or text to the class telling the children what he is doing as well as asking for help and advice. The children follow Jim on his journey as he learns more about the Christian faith. The materials have also been developed to work alongside a geography topic, namely Africa. The materials draw together the Key Stage 2 “Beliefs in Action in the World”, “Sacred Writings” and the “Inspirational People”, parts of the previous curriculum supported by Devon and Exeter Diocese and is easily transferrable to the new scheme looking at “How do we make moral choices?” (Beliefs in Action) and “How should we live?”. It is currently being used for Year 4 children but can be adapted easily for other year groups
The judges commented that this is a creative, innovative way of opening up and applying Christian belief and teaching. The entry makes excellent use of following fictional 18 year old Jim on his Gap year journey and showed very deep learning from religion. Uganda is chosen because there is an excellent link with a local Barnstaple charity working there. In short this entry ticked all the boxes for the judges including transferability to other schools and adaptability to other religions.
