Dealing with controversial issues in RE:
This meeting is specifically designed to discuss and consider ways in which we, as RE teachers, can address some of the more controversial issues that relate to Religion in today’s society. We will:
- Discuss what our role is when events such as the Manchester bombing or the Orlando shooting become the focus of the news. Should we address this in class? How can we address this in a sensitive manner? Does this fall into effective RE?
- Provide you with a bank of resources to be used in the classroom to help address these issues specifically.
- Consider how this aspect of RE links to both the promotion of British Values and the PREVENT Duty.The East Devon RE Hub is a Learn/Teach/Lead RE group for all teachers and TAs teaching RE at Primary and Secondary schoolsEveryone is very welcome

Exmouth Community College: Specific Directions:
We are on the Green Close site. If you turn down Gipsy Lane, go left at the roundabout at the bottom, drive past the tennis centre. Turn right at the next mini roundabout onto Moorfield Road. The best entrance is on Moorfield Road and is a direct right after the Zebra Crossing. Park in the Coach park and I will leave directions/a member of my department to direct people further! Do not arrive until after 3:20 because the school busses will still be around.
